For Health, Equity and Development
The COHRED Group invites all those working in the various areas of research for health – including social enterprises, research institutions, media practitioners reporting on health research and civil society organisations (CSO’s) – to submit their photographs. Submitted photos can include those taken with a professional camera, a basic camera or a cell phone, showcasing how research and innovation projects are having an effect on people’s health, equity and development.
Forum 2012 is the beginning of an exciting new series of the well-known and respected ‘Global Forum for Health Research meetings’.
Forum 2012 will be held under the theme, “Beyond Aid… Research and Innovation as key drivers for Health, Equity and Development”, COHRED and the Global Forum for Health Research will focus on how local capacities, investments & knowledge in low – and middle-income countries can be used to push for a new era of global development that looks at aid & beyond.
Forum 2012 will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from the 24th to the 26th of April 2012.
Deadlines And Winning Photos
Important dates:
- Call for entries opens: 15th December 2011
- Deadline for entries: 25th March 2012
- Winners to be announced: 26th April 2012
Online entries can be uploaded starting 12:01 am Eastern Standard Time on December 15 2011.
Entrants may be asked to supplement their submission (such as a paragraph about their photo, the highest resolution version of their photo, or a watermark-free version of their photo) anytime on or after March 25th, 2012.

- 1st place: USD 2000
- 2nd place: USD 1000
- 3rd place: USD 500
How To Enter
On filling out the online contest form photographs must be emailed along with the downloadable ‘Release Form’ to : submissions@forum2012.org
Photos emailed from an email address that is different to the one used on our online submission form cannot be attributed to the photographer properly, and therefore will not be considered as eligible for the contest.
Heavy files can be sent via www.yousendit.com or www.wetransfer.com using the same email ID that is used during the online submission process.

Eligibility And Judging
Entries may originate in any format — including, but not limited to digital files, digital prints, color transparencies, color prints, or black and white prints — so long as they are submitted electronically.
Images will be judged on uniqueness, significance to the subject-matter, technical excellence, composition, overall impact and artistic merit. The COHRED Group and the assigned panel of judges shall determine winner eligibility in its sole and absolute discretion. All decisions made by the judges are final.
Rules & Terms
You must read the following Rules and Terms before submitting any photos!
- Innovations in research for health and the impact on people’s lives;
- The results of research for health, equity and development;
- Research for health, equity and development “in action”;
- The potential of research for health;
- Examples of concrete innovative projects with an impact on health, equity and development;
- How research and innovation can work for health, equity and development in all sectors (e.g. environment, education, business, and technology).
- If you choose to include people in your submission you must have obtained express written consent to submit any entry that contains persons other than contestant or third-party elements not owned by the photographer and, produce such written consent from said parties in a form and manner acceptable to the COHRED Group. The release is to be submitted to the COHRED Group. All entries must not contain material that violates or infringes another person’s rights, including, but not limited to, privacy, publicity or intellectual property rights, or that constitutes copyright infringement.
- All submissions must be accompanied by a signed original of the Copyright waiver allowing the COHRED Group to use the picture submitted for the competition.
- Submissions must be the original work of the applicant. All photo submissions that are taken by someone other than the applicant will not be accepted.
- The COHRED Group reserves the right to turn down any submissions with content it deems hateful, offensive, inappropriate or irrelevant to the theme of the photo competition.
Photo captions must accompany all submissions, and should include the subject of the image, the location in which the image was taken, and the name of the photographer(s)
Legal Conditions
- We respect your privacy. The COHRED Group will not sell, rent or exchange your e-mail address.
Photograph Rights
By uploading your entry you grant
• Use the photograph on the Internet in support of our mission.
• Use the photograph in COHRED’s non-commercial/commercial communications.
• Provide your photograph to other individuals and organizations for non-commercial use, use in news stories, newsletters, reports, slide shows, displays, book, web pages, and the like.
• Use, in connection with the Photo Contest, your name, city, state and country of residence in promotions and other publications.
• Keep the files provided, and to archive the images on CD or in other electronic forms, so that your photos can be used to support our mission and be properly credited.
